Gower House School

Special Educational Needs

Gower House School provides a broad, balanced and approved programme of study based initially on the Foundation Stage, followed by the National Curriculum and the more advanced requirements of the selective secondary schools.

Inevitably, many children have individual learning requirements or difficulties at various times, to which it is important that the school and parents pay attention. In a few cases these may be long term and possibly serious. For most children, however, a little extra practice or guidance is all that is required.

Gower House has sympathetic staff well used to providing such extra help. Individual education plans are drawn up for children with all but the slightest difficulties, suitable support and help are discussed with a child’s parent’s and progress is monitored regularly. In many cases progress with new children requiring extra help can be spectacular.

In very occasional instances the school may advise a referral for a child’s assessment by an Educational Psychologist to identify a specific learning difficulty.

The existence of a Special Educational Need will not adversely effect the offer of a place at Gower House, provided that both school and parents consider that attendance at Gower House will be of benefit to the child. Indeed, the school has an excellent record of helping existing children with such needs.
