The children in the main part of the school follow a full programme of studies based on the National Curriculum.
This includes Maths, English, Reading, Reasoning, History, Geography, Science, French, PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), Swimming, Games, I.T.C (computers), Art and Design Technology.
French, Swimming, Games and I.T.C are taught by specialist subject teachers. All staff are checked by the Criminal Records Bureau.
Children receive homework each night appropriate to their age, including reading. All children learn their multiplication tables weekly, Class timetable are available from the class teachers.
Children make regular educational visits in support of their academic studies and receive visits from adults, often parents who talk about their work or special interests.
The emphasis is on conscientious work and children work to a high standard, receiving whatever support is required, including assessment of any Special Educational Needs. (SEN)
Reports and parent teacher evenings are held twice yearly while parents are encouraged to regard their relationship with the school as a partnership nurturing their child’s development.
At the top of the school, senior children are prepared for competitive entrance exams to both state grammar and independent secondary schools in which Gower House children have an enviable record.
